Why Knitting Machines?
Knitting machines are a great tool to help you complete projects faster. The catch is, you need to learn how to use them in order to be effective. Without training, or practice, they can be a bit frustrating. They are very procedural, meaning one step at a time and don’t forget a step. However, once a machine is set up, if you are working in straight stockinette stitch on a flat piece, then its a breeze!
As you can see by the photo, you are not just limited to stockinette stitch. Home knitting machines are capable of lace knitting, tuck stitch, fair isle, slipped stitch and other complex patterning.
Knitting machines come in different sizes. You can think of them as equivalent to a range of knitting needles. So, if you are working with a heavier weight yarn, you might need to use a bulky knitting machine. For lace weight, you would use a standard gauge machine.
Check out our Studio equipment by selecting Equipment from the menu at the top or bottom of any page to look through our gallery of knitting machines.
We also sell new machines at the Fiber Rhythm Shop. Silver Reed is one of the few manufacturers that still make the metal bed, japanese style home knitting machines.
If you just want to test the waters, choosing an Addi circular machine might be your best choice. Give us a call, we’d love to talk more about your options!
